At times, one may think that the workload given to us starts to get overwhelming. There are times that you cannot manage all the workload you are trying to balance. Things tend to fall to the wayside as a result of this pressure. Furthermore, while this happens to the best of students now and then, they often struggle with a heavy workload that does not do them any favors, especially to the students with a heavy workload.

Hart and Staveland’s research about workload,(1988) described workload as the perceived relationship between the amount of mental processing capability or resources and the amount required by the task. Another definition is that it represents the relationship between a group or individual human operator and task demands. In simpler terms, it is the volume of work expected of a person.

Student workload is a necessary factor in the teaching and learning environment (Kyndt, Berghmans, Dochy & Bulckens (2013). Whitelock, Thorpe, and Galley (2015) argued the possibility of dropouts when students are incapable of devoting the necessary time to their course work. Despite these claims, however, student workload is still a neglected issue in the research literature, especially in practice among teachers. (Chambers, 2006).

In this research, our main objective is to find strategies to manage workload more effectively. Especially for the students with a heavy workloads. Efficiency is all about working smarter, not harder, and accomplishing more work in less time. It can help to carry through workload with efficiency.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

This research aims of providing a strategy for workload efficiency

The research seeks to answer the following problems:

  1. How is heavy workload an issue?

2. How does heavy workload affect productivity?

1.3 Significance of the Study

The result of this study will be beneficial to the following:

  • Students — The outcome of this study may give them facts, data, and information for academic purposes. The results may be applied to their daily life and can change students’ views on workload and how to handle it effectively.
  • Teachers — This study could help the teachers guide the students properly by giving them adequate school work that can avoid workloads for the students.
  • Parents — The results of this study may make them more aware of situations such as their children having a hard time dealing with their workload; that will help them to encourage and guide their child in handling workload more effectively.
  • School Administrators — The outcome of the study would be the basis for planning the professional growth and development of students and teachers in terms of workload.
  • Other researchers — Other researchers may use the output of this study as a reference if they are to work on related topics. It can also expand their knowledge about workload and how to effectively handle a heavy workload.

1.4 Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study aims to ascertain how students struggle with workload. And to determine strategies to manage it more effectively. The factors to be used to measure are the amount of work accomplished over some time (quantitative/number of hours worked or the number of tasks needed to fulfill), level of production, and the physical or cognitive demands of the given work (qualitative/difficulty of the activity). The study was compiled by the researchers starting November 2020 to February 2021. This study will revolve around the 9th and 10th-grade students of Sto Nino Parochial School S.Y. 2020–2021.

Just a reminder… this research was made by me and a few colleagues in a project which revolves mostly around academic workload. We do not want to be flagged as plagiarism because we may have used some outdated and recent references on specific articles and researches (only a few were used), we specified everything to make this article available for you to read.
